Seismic Acquisition and ProcessingObjectivesImprove the scientific understanding of the structure and processes within the crust and upper mantle of continental Australia using seismic methods. The key objectives of the Seismic Acquisition and Processing section are to:
Project descriptionSeismic Acquisition and Processing (SAP) is part of the Geophysics Group at Onshore Energy and Minerals Division (OEMD), and is a major part to the Australian National Seismic Imaging Resource (ANSIR). Geoscience Australia has over 40 years' experience in land seismic surveys and since 1980 has acquired about 10,000 km of onshore deep seismic reflection data and numerous 2D seismic refraction profiles. The Australian National Seismic Imaging Resource was Australia's first major National Research Facility dedicated to the Earth sciences. It continues as the National Research Facility for Earth Sounding, a joint venture of Geoscience Australia and the Research School of Earth Sciences at the Australian National University in June 1997 under the Australian Government’s Major National Research Facility Program. A new tripartite agreement between Geoscience Australia, The Australian National University, and The University of Adelaide is under development for the continuation of the Facility. The Seismic Acquisition and Processing section will focus on the projects for Onshore Energy Security Program (OESP) in the next four years, and will continue to operate other projects approved by ANSIR. The major types of projects under the SAP are:
