Geophysical Network

Project description

The Geophysical Network collects geophysical data on earthquakes, nuclear explosions and geomagnetic fields for projects within the Geohazards Division and other agencies.

Project outcome

The project provides data and information to help understand earthquake hazards for improved mitigation and disaster management strategies, provide alerts to emergency organisations and support research activities.

Data is also provided to the Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty Organisation to fulfil Australia's commitment to nuclear monitoring.

Geomagnetic data is collected for research and hazard mitigation.

Project outputs

Seismic, geomagnetic, infrasound, and hydroacoustic data and information is provided for internal clients, the Australian Government, States/Territories and international seismological and geomagnetic agencies.
