Geology Data

Geoscience Australia is custodian of the wide range of geology data, provided on the regional and national level. The datasets have been compiled into multi-themed GIS packages, grouped by the major by States or research regions and available in the main GIS formats. Also available are databases compiled on mineral occurrences, mineral deposits, geochemistry and geochronology. All of the data is available on CD-ROMs at $99.00 (inc.GST) plus postage and handling, while some datasets are also downloadable on-line.

The availability, extend and other details about these data are listed.

A range of geoscience and related spatial datasets that form National Geoscience Datasets are free to download. Available raster and vector datasets have been compiled using standard projections and datums enabling easy integration. Some datasets are primary (geology, basins, regolith), whilst others are subsets of Geoscience Australia's major databases and datasets (magnetics, whole-rock geochemistry, seismic surveys etc). These datasets are an "active archive" and will be updated on a regular basis.

These data are also observable through the National Datasets Online GIS in which you can integrate, visualise and generate tailor made maps.
